Mental Health First Aid Awareness Training

We are working with Former Royal Marines at IED Training to deliver free Mental Health First Aid Awareness Training for the Scottish agricultural sector.

We know mental health and wellbeing is a concern for many in the industry and the aim of this initiative is to encourage people to talk more freely about mental health, reduce stigma, improve understanding about what to look out for and to increase confidence in how to respond if you think someone is struggling.

We are offering the opportunity for participants to gain certification in the SCQF Level 4 Award for First Aid for Mental Health Awareness and/or SCQF Level 5 Award in First Aid for Mental Health.

Training is aimed at organisations and individuals who work regularly in the front line with farmers or crofters, including those involved in assessments or inspections, consultants and advisers.

The training will:

• provide individuals with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions
• know how to provide practical support for a person presenting with a mental health condition
• help participants to develop the skills to start a conversation and to be able to direct people to appropriate professional help
• help those who take part understand more about their own mental health.

We would love to hear from organisations who would like to arrange training for their staff and/or members. We will also be holding open training courses for individuals to attend, which will be listed below.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is also available as a free two day, in-person course that provides attendees with practical skills to identify and support individuals who may be at risk of suicide. Further information is available HERE.
