The Health Hut initiative brings health and wellbeing expertise to markets and other events in the farming community at a time and place convenient to them, in an environment where they feel comfortable. RSABI also hopes to encourage farmers, and others in Scottish agriculture, to think how they can improve their health and provide them with an opportunity to discuss any mental or physical health concerns they might have.
The Health Huts are a fantastic opportunity for farmers and those in Scottish agriculture to improve their health and wellbeing. Our team of dedicated health professionals, all with a background in farming, are here to provide confidential health checks and support in a comfortable and familiar environment.
We hope to encourage farmers, and others in Scottish agriculture, to think how they can improve their health and provide them with an opportunity to discuss any mental or physical health concerns they might have.
Since its launch at the Royal Highland Show in 2023, the Health Hut has grown significantly, now offering blood pressure checks and health advice at various events across the country. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many stories of lives being positively impacted by our services.
RSABI is proud to announce that it has received part funding for the Health Huts from the ANM Charitable Trust and the Health Lottery, enabling us to continue our mission and expand our services.

I had a few return ‘patients’ to the HH this past Friday, some had been to the HH at Thainstone and also the shows. Three of which were flagged as having high BP’s previously and are now on medication and making real lifestyle changes to better their health.
A Yardsman at Lanark had decided to start cooking better meals and lose weight since visiting us at out last Health Hut in Lanark. He is now finding his boilersuit easier to put on!
A gentleman who has had raised BP on 2 occasions informed me that he has reduced portion size and started to go for walks at lunchtime with another colleague. The result of this is that he has lost 3 inches from his waist and is now wearing shirts that he has not worn for 3 years. His BP has reduced - a great improvement and much closer to a reading that we are aiming for.
Parkinsons awareness - Thainstone last week, I spoke with a gentleman who mentioned to me that he was having problem with his dexterity, he was finding that his writing was getting smaller as he wrote. He had a slight tremor in his hand. He also mentioned that he was having problems with his balance. I did manage to give him in a very subtle way, the leaflet that had your contact details on it. He was attending his GP in the next couple of weeks. so I strongly advised that he should mention these issues with them.
