B4 - David Rollo (Local Hero)
Authored by Andrew Arbuckle:
Coming from a provincial rugby club, Dave Rollo broke the mould when he gained forty international rugby caps for Scotland – then a record equalling tally. He went on to play for the British & Irish Lions – one of the few Scots to gain such an honour.
Dave competed in an amateur era where he turned out for his country on a Saturday and was back feeding the cattle on his farm the next morning. His training largely consisted of physical farm work long before the days of lifting weights in a gym and circuit training became the norm.
Throughout three decades of playing rugby – a sport often associated with rough, tough play – he was only once spoken to by the referee and he was never sent off. But he was no soft touch being more than able to hold his own in the dark shadows of the scrum.
Providing emotional, practical and financial support to individuals and their families across the agricultural sector including farming, crofting and growing.
