Neil joined the RSABI Board at the 2010 AGM. He farms in upland Perthshire as part of a family partnership. The McGowans at Incheoch run suckler cows and sheep, the main focus of the business being to produce 'functional, efficient breeding stock'. Neil has been influential in setting up a successful on-farm ram sale in recent years branded as the 'Working Genes' sale.
Spending part of his school days in the Borders, Neil achieved a Duke of Edinburgh's Gold award whilst at Berwickshire High School. Before returning home to farm, he gained a BSc (Hons) in Agri-Business Management at the University of Newcasle upon Tyne, during which he won a travel scholarship to study Beef and Lamb Marketing Channels in New Zealand. Neil has spent time working in the meat industry and for the Texel Sheep Society, and is currently a member of the Council of the British Simmental Cattle Society. Married to Debbie with two small children, Neil says his spare time centres around family life in a small rural community.
