Patricia practised as a barrister at the Commercial Bar in London dealing with all aspects of commercial law and in particular insurance, shipping, banking and sale of goods from 1979-1993. For three years from January 1994 she was the sole Legal Adviser to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (part-time position).
Patricia and her husband live at Threeburnford, a 500 acre upland stock farm in the Scottish Borders. She is an active partner in the farm business which currently has a breeding flock of about 700 ewes and a herd of about 40 pedigree Aberdeen-Angus cows. Her husband, Angus, is a judge of the High Court in Scotland, sitting in the Inner House (Appeal Court).
Patricia's Voluntary work includes a Member of Board of Visitors of Wormwood Scrubs Prison, Member of Scottish Borders Children's Panel, Member of Visiting Committee at H.M YOI Polmont, Chair of the Steering Committee of the Borders branch of FWAG ("Farmers Wildlife Advisory Group"), Chair of West Berwickshire branch of NFUS. Subsequently sat on the Legal and Technical Committee of the NFUS for a number of years, Council member of the Aberdeen Angus Society representing the South of Scotland and Chair of the Health Committee and member of the Executive Committee of the Society.
